There will be approximately 40 squad members from across the UK attending the one week training event, from various trades including Bricklaying, Cabinet Making, Carpentry, Electrical Installation, Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Plastering & Dry Wall Systems, Plumbing Pipework, Stone Masonry and Wall & Floor Tiling.
This is the final training event before the ultimate June selection competition which decides which apprentice will represent the UK in their various trade. As such, it is a very important event and the first time that the squad has come to Northern Ireland in these numbers.
Invitation is open for this wonderful opportunity for the public, employers, family & friends, commercial business, training lecturers, students and school pupils to witness these apprentices performing to the very demanding WorldSkills standards!
There are seven apprentices from Northern Ireland who will be at this training event who initially were successful at the 2010 Skillbuild NI National Competition and have made it through the selection process so far are:
Philip Green - Bricklaying

Luke Hawthorne & Wayne Cully - Carpentry

Ian McMahon & Mark Woods - Wall & Floor Tiling.

Our two Refrigeration Apprentices Stuart Millar & Bryan Craig will continue to train at the various refrigeration centres across the UK.

Mark Woods competed again at the recent Skillbuild NI National Final Competition 2011 and walked away with not only first place in Wall & Floor Tiling, but also the Haldane Fisher Cup for Best Overall Skillbuild NI Young Apprentice! Hats off to Paddy Maguires students in the Painting & Decorating section of Southern Regional College, Greenbank, Newry for their fantastic work on this stunning WorldSkills piece.
Well done to all our apprentices and best of luck for their ongoing journey!
