Skillbuild UK and Summit Skills National Competitions 2008
Dates and Venues
The Skillbuild UK National Finals Competition was held in Leeds College of Building, Leeds 1 -3 Oct 2008. The venue was excellent with all the competition areas housed within one large building
The Skillbuild N.I Team for this event comprised 7 Apprentices, who travelled to compete in the finals.
The Skillplumb National Finals Plumbing competition, organised by Summit Skills, was held at the NEC complex in Birmingham 28 -30 Oct 2008 in conjunction with the Interbuild Exhibition. The Skillbuild UK National Finals Competition 2008
111 Competitors representing Training Providers from all over the UK participated in the Competition.
There were a total of 11 trades in this competition.
The competition was keenly contested; the test pieces were very challenging with very high standards evident throughout all of the craft skills assisted by the excellent College facilities. Once again it was evident that standards continue to improve year on year.
The Summit Skills Skillfridge and SkillPlumb National Finals Competition 2008
10 Competitors Representing Training Providers from across the UK took part
in each of these competitions.
Again competition was intense and challenging with all apprentices delivering very high standards. Indeed only 15 marks separated all the competitors in the Skillplumb competition
Results
Skillbuild NI Competitors performed well in both competitions winning 4 medals, 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.
This is particularly pleasing given the rising standards very evident and having a very young overall age profile this year.
Medal winners details were as follows:-
Martin Davey Refrigeration Gold Medal Winner
James Dougan Brickwork Silver Medal Winner
James Gillick Carpentry Bronze Medal Winner
Andrew Lindsay Plumbing Bronze Medal Winner
It is pleasing to report that both Martin Davey and Andrew Lindsay did so well as they both are only 18 years old.
Public Relations Exposure
A post competition photo shoot took place at the CITB premises, involving all of our team competitors and representatives from CITB, DEL, Snickers, Gilbert Ash, Graham’s and Skillbuild N.I.Ltd. It was also used as an opportunity to distribute the Snickers Clothing kindly sponsored. An evening meal was also arranged at CITB to recognise all the team members and lecturers hard work.
