The purpose of CITB as a statutory training board is to encourage the adequate training of those employed or intending to be employed in the construction industry in Northern Ireland. A consistently high level of training is particularly important in construction, because the workforce moves from project to project and because of the high level of health and safety risks associated with construction. The construction industry offers a varied and interesting career for young people. Skillbuild demonstrates the expertise that is involved and is an excellent opportunity for young people to compete against each other and prove themselves. The competition not only encourages trainees to improve their own skills but provides an example of the high quality work being produced in training organisations across NI to meet skills levels in the construction industry.
The Department for Employment and Learning's overall aim is to unlock the talent inherent in the people in our community and enable them to make the most of their potential. It does this by promoting learning and skills and preparing people for work in order to help create a dynamic, innovative and sustainable economy.
